Just awful. We ended up with a student with behavioral issues, mental health issues, and an eating disorder. It was absolute hell to get this kid out of our home. We told them in December, after months of struggling that we wanted to end our participation in the program. They would not remove her, despite various pleas to the local coordinator. They said "oh, we have a process to follow. First we have to give her a written warning. Then if she continues to behave badly she will be put on probation. Then if she fails probation she will be sent home." This all took over 2 months. We documented everything, took loads of pictures, were in constant communication with the director, etc. We did everything right, by the book. We went through all of this for 2+ months, she failed the probation badly. Then the local coordinator, Whitney, who apparently has some sort of savior complex, moved her into her own home. There was no consequences for the student, despite putting us through hell for months. We are seeking legal remedies to address involuntary participation in their program for 2+ months.
We hosted a student with IE last year and had a wonderful experience. We had exceptional support from the staff who all care so much for the students. Our host son made many friends here and had a great year in the US. We miss him but he will always be a part of our lives. We will do this again!
Review from Guidestar
This is an international high school student exchange organization. I have hosted three student through this agency, and I can't say enough good things about them. Everyone I've ever dealt with at iE have been just fantastic, and the kids I've hosted are like my own children now; we will have a connection for life!
