It is the sole member of two operating entities: eastern niagara hospital ("enh") and newfane rehabilitation and health care center ("nrhcc"). It is also the sole member of eastern niagara properties, llc, which holds a single property. Nrhcc is a 175 bed skilled nursing and short term rehabilitation facility located in newfane, new york. Eastern niagara county, in which the facility is located, is rural, and the county has a disproportionately large number of elderly and medically indigent residents. Nrhcc has been operated by the eastern niagara health system (enhs) or its predecessor since december of 1997. Although nrhcc is a freestanding institution, it is an integral component of eastern niagara health system. Nrhcc works closely with eastern niagara hospital. Not only is the nursing home a key and necessary component to the system but it is the only nursing home in the northern portion of eastern niagara county. Further, it takes patients from eastern niagara hospital who cannot be placed elsewhere. Nrhcc supports the community health and welfare in many ways. There are a number of residents each year who are either incompetent, have no place to go or no one to care for them. Nrhcc, through efforts of its staff and legal expense, obtains a guardian for these individuals. Managers and staff from nrhcc also take the opportunity to support the community with various educational programs. Nrhcc also supports the local business associations and other community organizations, such as the vfw and american legion, by participating in community outreach events throughout the year.
