Mission: Formed in 1969 in response to devastating floods and mud slides,the mission of the inter-canyon league is to protect and preserve the canyons' unique way of life. The icl handles disaster assistance, organizes community meetings, represents the canyons at meetings with various agencies and public officials, distributes information, coordinates historical record keeping, maintains emergency contact lists and oversees multiple activities that benefit the community at large. Other projects include the inter-canyon league fire safe council, which organizes brush cleanups, provides information on fire prevention and received a major federal grant to remove dead and hazardous vegetation after the santiago fire. The council also oversees canyon watch, a group of volunteers linked by radio who monitor canyon safety, particularly during high fire or flood risk periods.
