Vbs is one of the largest volunteer efforts in virginia with nearly 56,000 donors per year. They receive excellent inspection reports from the u. S. Food and drug administration. Vbs is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of local medical and business leaders, and is not affiliated with the american red cross. The organization receives no government funding. Funding comes primarily from blood processing fees that are a patient's transfusion charges. These fees cover the cost of employee salaries and benefits, blood collection supplies and testing, laboratory equipment, and other items required to make blood safe and available.

I've donated blood several times, and every experience has been easy and straightforward. The staff is very friendly and professional; taking blood was relatively painless, and they always offer food, water, or blankets to keep you comfortable. Scheduling appointments over the phone or online is also a breeze. I have absolutely no complaints about VA Blood Services.
