The san antonio chapter takes a break from" business as usual" to enjoy an educational hands on program for the whole family. Matthew driffill, recreation superintendent of sara will give a firsthand account of the san antonio river improvements project. Then we will have the opportunity to experience the river improvements firsthand, by kayak. Catered bbq dinner and refreshments will be provided. Learning objectives: 1. The area near east riverside drive between downtown austin and the austin bergstrom international airport epitomizes the car-dominated environment that is typical of much of the modern american landscape, but recent redevelopment interest created an opportunity to change the rules for new development so that it will be more people-oriented and supportive of transit.

lean project delivery case study: bexar county adult detention facility, benefited 44 people. In this session, lean practitioners from leading specialty and trade contractors will demonstrate how they have collaboratively utilized lean construction principles on their own to deliver and capture more value and differentiate themselves from the competition. Lean construction techniques and culture have begun to change the construction industry. This collaborative approach delivers greater value by exposing and eliminating waste, promoting continuous improvement and improvement measurements, utilizing "management by sight" techniques that enable engagement by all on the project, and deploying the last planner tools that yield optimum efficiencies. However, too often lean construction implementation is controlled and dominated by the general contractor or construction manager, and the subcontractors, trade contractors and specialty contractors are left to struggle to consistently implement lean from project to project and in their own shop.
texas state university system 2015-2016 forecasted capital projects, benefited 161 people. ut: anatomy of a project, benefited 44 people. Description: the iconic main tower on the ut austin campus had not received a significant renovation for many years. To alleviate code, life safety, hazardous material and infrastructure issues, ut austin tapped ofpc to lead a design-build approach on the renovation of the tower and three adjacent buildings (parlin, calhoun and homer rainey. The project had all of the complexities expected including working in an occupied area, unreliable as-built information and hazardous materials. The design-build team partnered to exceed expectations on this most important project. Learning points: learn how a "building preservation hierarchy" process was used during the planning and design of this project. Understand how the integration of new systems into an iconic landmark structure supported a "leave no trace" philosophy. Hear what it takes to build a highly-functioning design-build team.
