Mission: MISSION STATEMENT The central goal of the Institute for Central American Studies is to encourage dialogue, mutual trade and cultural exchange between the peoples of the United States and Central America through educational and charitable activities for the mutual benefit of all parties, through: - Assessing the education needs of developing countries. - Designing solutions to meet those needs in conjunction with local nonprofit agencies and individuals. - Raising funds to further the purposes of the corporation. - Raising in-kind contributions of items to donate to noncommercial health care providers in developing communities. - Delivering charitable, humanitarian aid to disadvantaged groups in Central America and to noncommercial organizations that aid them. The Institute for Central American Studies works to accomplish its goals by coordinating and supporting the activities of various projects: LA ESPERANZA GRANADA La Esperanza Granada endeavors to brighten the future of the children and to empower four Nicaraguan pueblos to improve their current living conditions by providing opportunities and resources for the long term educational advancement and community development of those pueblos. Projects focus on: educational support, medical support, small business assistance, sports and culture, community center, and the volunteer network. JUNTOS ADELANTE www.juntosadelante.org & www.mamasclinic.org The mission of Juntos Adelante is to promote more just distribution of health, financial, intellectual, and artistic resources, abundant in the developed world, to women-owned and operated organizations and businesses in developing nations. By transferring the wealth of services, products and resources in the developed nations to less developed nations, the end goal is to encourage self-sustainability of women initiated organizations dedicated to health and human rights in their communities. A current focus of the activities of Juntos Adelante is the support of Mama Licha''s Clinic in EstelÃ, Nicaragua, the Cervical Cancer Initiative, Art for Health and Human Rights, and the Rural Nursing Training Program. NICCA Nicaragua Center for Community Action (NICCA) is a democratically organized, grassroots, community-based volunteer organization whose purpose is to do solidarity work in support of the Nicaraguan people''s struggle to build in independent and just Nicaragua. We take inspiration from their example, and strive as well to build a more just society in our own country. - Facilitates work brigades and other delegations so that North Americans can participate in the activities of progressive mass organizations. - Raises material aid to help the popular movement for justice and democracy. - Provides information and referrals to individuals and groups wanting to know more about Nicaragua. - Works in coalition with a variety of other progressive organizations. - Undertakes many kinds of political education and action projects to change U.S. interventionist policy in Central America.
