Mission: The beaufort county north carolina pal mission is to improve the relationship, trust and communication between law enforcement officials, at-risk youth of all gender, ethnic, religious backgrounds and the community while educating youth to the importance of stem courses and interacting with other community service organizations that work with youth to leverage resources.
Programs: Five week summer stem boating/aviation summer camp for at-risk and underserved youth in the nine to fourteen years age group. Program provided education in stem concepts, life-skills, swimming, boat safety, kayaking, marine ecology, snorkeling/diving, sail boating, and aviation utilizing an faa approved curriculum. 14 - 18 youth attended this summer camp at no cost.
established an october thru february afterschool stem program at the chocowinity middle school using high tech equipment to learn cad programming, 3d printing concepts, wind tunnel diagnosing and testing, and advanced vehicle concepts thru constructing and testing electronic go-carts. 12 - 14 middle school youth took advantage of this no cost to them program. Data shown here is the year 2017 portion of the program.
coordinated a successful stem youth career day at beaufort county community college for approximately 300 7th graders; nasa, potashcorp, dyneema fibers, beaufort county health department, and many other industry, service providers, and first responders presented career opportunity considerations to the students.
