Mission: The information and referral federation of los angeles county, dba 211 la county is a nonprofit corporation formed to improve access to human service agencies in los angeles county ("la county") by providing information about and referrals to these agencies (see schedule o) and by providing coordination between the various programs in la county which offer specialized information and referral services. Specialized services provided by 211 la county include the first 5 la parent hotline, the la county's elder abuse hotline, the safely surrendered baby hotline, mobility management services, abuse prevention/intervention services, youth services, veterans services, and early intervention services. In addition, 211 la county engages in developing software to support and enhance customer service through the development of digital and online services. 211 la county also maintains a database of community resources and web-based services that enable online access to this database.

In four decades, I have not been able to receive a single referral of any use. Referrals that they provide, even for emergency services, tend to be outdated or incorrect. The company, which used to be called Infoline, but is now 211, is run by a couple of women, whose annual salaries are nearly a quarter and a fifth of a million dollars, and whose attitudes are condescending at best. To their credit, their new website removed the wallpaper photo of their staff apparently laughing and dancing. But this is a "charity" that sucks roughly $9 million per year from credulous taxpayers, as dolled out by the County Board of Supervisors.
