Mission: Since 1941, the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society has relentlessly provided our most vulnerable Hoosiers with direct and immediate access to comprehensive free legal assistance in civil matters. We restore hope as we work with our clients’ side-by-side to resolve their legal issues. In doing so, we help to promote economic self-sufficiency, preserve dignity, and strengthen our neighborhoods and communities. Results: Indianapolis Legal Aid Society has assisted more than 500,000 clients in Central Indiana since its founding in 1941. Indy Legal Aid's dedicated and highly experienced attorneys screened nearly 10,000 inquiries, fully counseled and represented over 5,000 low-income clients in Central Indiana, and represented clients two to three times per day. Indy Legal Aid differs from other legal providers in Central Indiana in that it is the only organization where individuals are able to meet immediately with an attorney - typically within two to three business days. The Coalition for Court Access Indiana's Legal Aid Organizations Economic Impact Analysis in 2017 found that for every $1 invested in Indiana legal aid during the year, the citizens of Indiana receive $6.70 of immediate and long-term financial benefits. Indy Legal Aid in assisting low-income individuals and families also helps in strengthening neighborhoods and communities.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Approximately 5,000 clients. However, the actual number taking into consideration family members is in the 35,000 to 40,000 range.
Geographic areas served: Marion and the eight surrounding counties in Indiana.
Programs: free assistance with non-criminal cases focusing on Family Law, Housing, and Expungment and Reentry.
