Mission: Building political ambition in young women
Results: We have trained over 400 young women in high school and college in California and Texas this year alone.
Target demographics: Build political ambition among female high school and college students
Geographic areas served: San Francisco Bay Area
Programs: In high schools, we offer after-school programming that reviews civics, government and public policy, with a focus on gender parity and women’s roles in politics. There is a heavy emphasis on local government and the local policy issues. The year long high school curriculum highlights the theme of becoming a change-maker in one’s own community. We encourage students to identify problems within their own communities, research how to mitigate them and finally, make it happen. Our college trainings function as day-long retreats that focus more on the logistics of running for public office. We discuss overcoming barriers to running for office, fundraising techniques and running a strong field campaign. We also facilitate an in-depth public speaking exercise followed by an opportunity to plot out a five to seven year plan to position yourself for candidacy.
