Mission: Hygiene4All works for a city that enhances the health and well-being of ALL residents through community connection and advocacy tied to activities and knowledge leveraged at our outdoor Hygiene Hub. H4A fulfills our vision by (1) modeling and disseminating person centered practices and protocols for offering welcoming, joy-enhancing access to showers, bathrooms, foot & wound care, health workers, clean clothing and bedding, and environmentally friendly waste management, guided by unsheltered staffers & patron feedback; (2) fostering opportunities for unsheltered residents to (a) share lived experience seeking access to and barriers to services, and (b) recommend innovations to programming & practices that reduce systemic exclusion. From 3-9 PM, four evenings a week, Hygiene4All offers health, joy, and community-enhancing showers, toilets, first aid, and hygiene products, foot and wound care, access to health workers, a clothing & bedding exchange, and waste management guided and operated by and for houseless residents. Collaborating with unsheltered staff and local experts, we have painstakingly developed and shared training and practices focused on (1) community safety planning & de-escalation, (2) mental health first aid, (3) shared decision-making (4) recognizing and disrupting identity-based harm that too often plagues our BIPOC, Queer, & disabled constituents on the streets. Additionally, we research, document, and advocate for public investments addressing the unmet needs and barriers preventing access to basic hygiene, health, sanitation, and well-being. More than jobs and services, H4A fosters a space for inquiry, sanctuary, and community where self-advocacy and civic participation can bloom.
