Causes: Education, Literacy, Remedial Reading & Encouragement
Mission: Huntington County Literacy Coalition, established in 1987, is a Non-Profit Volunteer Organization which grew out of the need for literacy services in Huntington County. Services provided to adults in Huntington County consist of one-on-one tutoring for basic reading, writing, computation, GED, ESL(English as a second language), workforce literacy, life skills/ABE (Adult Basic Education before GED beginning at Grade three level) - any goal the student has in mind. The Literacy Coalition recognized the need for for literacy services in Huntington County and provides those services in Huntington, Markle, Roanoke, Andrews, and Warren. Additionally, a great deal of the Literacy Coalition effort is directed at promoting public awareness of adult literacy needs and programs in our area.The Huntington County Literacy's goal is to support the volunteer tutors and paid adult literacy program staff, and work closely with the adult education programs of the Huntington County School Corporation and other community organizations.
