Mission: In early 1990, Paper Recycling International was formed with Mr. Howard Ingram at its helm as President. While striving to move the recently formed joint venture of Stone Container Corporation and Waste Management ahead and into a ranking position in the recycling industry, Mr. Ingram also found time to be concerned about the needy in the Atlanta area. Mr. Ingram went about establishing a fund to help those in need during the Holidays; Thanksgiving and Christmas. The families' names and history are supplied by various welfare agencies, churches, and community service organizations. While starting small with collections from employees and from special contributions from business associates, the fund was able to help several families annually with Thanksgiving Dinners, Christmas Dinners and Presents and back to school aid these families would have little or nothing without the fund's help. Mr. Ingram's vision was to be something special to the families aided. To be there in their hour of need, not only during the Holidays, but also throughout the year and to hopefully assist these families into a position of not needing the fund, but to become self-sufficient. In August 1995, Mr. Ingram was diagnosed with a life threatening illness, threatening his ideals for the fund. The management and employees of Paper Recycling International could not allow that to happen and The Howard Ingram Foundation, Inc. was formed with all efforts performed on a strictly gratuitous manner ... no paid employees, all funds go directly to the families.
