Causes: Mental Health, Substance Abuse Dependency, Prevention & Treatment
Mission: The mission of Houston Recovery Center is to provide compassionate care to underserved individuals affected by substance use through early intervention and community care coordination to help them achieve lifelong recovery.
Results: On our 10th Anniversary, we celebrated serving over 42.000 clients, helping them sober up, and engaging them in services to address the root cause that put their health and safety at risk: problematic substance use. People with harmful consumption of alcohol and other drugs come to us through law enforcement diversions, hospital referrals, community outreach, and criminal justice in-reach with the jail, courts, and probation. Our 2023 Impact Report highlights what we see in the community, the significance of our programs, and the impact we have realized so far. Our clients teach us. Our community partners are invaluable. Our staff is compassionately dedicated. This combination has fueled continuous growth to meet the demand for new care delivery systems, building programs and a service model that stand out nationally. Alcohol and other drug issues continue to escalate in Houston. Unpredictable life-or-death substance use outcomes are pervasive in our community, schools, homes, and workplaces. Harris County has one of the highest impaired driving rates in the country. The "cost of it" is staggering. Houston Recovery Center (HRC) is saving professionals their jobs and giving our most vulnerable neighbors access to supportive care while improving the well-being of our region. Helping clients who are homeless get off the streets increases safety and protects them from crime, violence, and additional traumas. We are uniquely positioned to serve our community. yet we can only solve this public health and safety crisis together. Target demographics: Universal access to recovery from substance abuse.
Direct beneficiaries per year: The Personal Addiction Recovery Team (PART) pairs clients with a licensed chemical dependency counselor and a peer recovery support specialist for six months of intensive case management and 18 months of peer recovery support. They assess the client’s substance use and mental health needs as well as other health and life needs and connect them to appropriate community resources, providing transportation and warm handoffs to substance use treatment and other services. We help clients achieve recovery and close the revolving door of arrest, medical emergency, and substance use.

Programs: Our sobering center is the second opened in the state of Texas. Since April 2013, we have provided a safe, short-term stay to sober up in clean dorms separated by gender.
