Mission: Provide a funding stream to support public health projects beyond the usual scope/capacity of the city operations. There are 5 main initiatives; see to succeed, project saving smiles, aim, community nutrition, hip hop for hiv.
Programs: See to succeed - this program inproves vision and vision-related health, education, and social factors by providing free vision exams and corrective eyewear to school children aged 6-18 years old. In the fiscal year ending june 30, 2014 see to succeed has provided eye exams for 9,803 students and has distributed 9,014 pairs of glasses to children in need.
project saving smiles - this program provides free dental screenings, dental saelants, fluoride varnish, and oral health education to at-risk second graders. In the fiscal year ending june 30, 2014 this initiative has served a total of 7,082 2nd graders and sealed 22,179 teeth.
community nutrition program - this program provides sustainable alternatives for obesity prevention, and promotes healthy lifestyles by increasing access to nutritious food. In the fiscal year ending june 30, 2014 the community nutrition program has harvested a total of 5,537. 33 pounds of fresh produce in the houston area. This produce is distributed to the volunteers working in the program.
