Causes: Technology
Mission: The consortium will: (i) provide educational, consulting and networking opportunities for teachers, researchers, clinicians and students with the texas medical center; (ii) facilitate collaborative relationships between innovators, biotechnology companies, and other experts in the life sciences field in order to support successful commercialization of technology for the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer and related diseases; and (iii) promote houston as a leader in life sciences research.
Programs: The consortium will expedite the transition of scientific breakthroughs from the laboratory into life-saving products and technologies to aid in the fight against cancer and other diseases. The consortium will draw ideas, research, and talent from the texas medical center and introduce new health sciences business and jobs to texas, building houston into the next major hub of biotechnology and investment. The texas medical center is adjacent to rice, and is a key partner with rice in biomedical research and development. Established in 1945, it is the world's largest medical complex with one of the highest densities of clinical facilities devoted to patient care, basic science and translational research. It contains 54 medicine-related institutions, including 13 hospitals and two institutions, two medical schools, four nursing schools and schools of dentistry, public health, pharmacy and other health-related practices. All 54 institutions are not-for-profit.
