Mission: The hospitality committee is the only independent non-profit volunteer organization priviliged to be positioned within the united nations itself. It is funded entirely by the private sector. It's mission is to promote and strengthen understanding and friendly ties between all levels of the united nations diplomatic community and the people of new york. To assist newly arrived un diplomats and their families adjust to their new life in new york by providing information and programs that reduce language and cultural barriers. To broaden an appreciation of american culture and customs among un diplomats and their families, thereby enhancing the reputation of the united states and the united nations.
Programs: English language classes the hospitality committee's english language school continues to be popular with diplomatic families. Enrollment in the primary english classes served 34 students from 28 countries in the spring semester and 50 students from 35 countries in the fall semester. The level of continuing and re- enrollment remains highnd and is designed to meet the needs unique to the united nations community.
hospitality missions during the 2014 program year, the hospitality committee for united nations delegations, inc produced a total of 145 program events. The combined total attendance at these were 2,101 persons, of which 1,697 attendees were adults and 404 were children. These people were drawn from 127 different countries - more than half of all u. N. Missions included members who had attended an hcund event. For 2014 events, 23 hcund member-volunteers acted as escorts throughout the year, some several times, and there were 50 people or organizations who acted as hosts for programs, including members who hosted guests at events in their homes. Particularly popular were annual events geared toward children.
