The leaps program takes place at the town of davie's eastside community center for the school year beginning in august 2016. The program encourages children to develop caring relationships and to participate in constructive activities including exposure to the arts and sciences. Our value-based program emphasizes respect, kindness, cooperation, and participation in a nurturing atmosphere where children can grow, learn, and have fun. Some of the weekly components of our program include circle time with music, song, dance, story time, science demonstrations, arts and crafts, reading, table games, outdoor play and other sports activities, tutoring and homework assistance. We also provide a nutritious snack daily. We celebrate special days such as birthdays, thanksgiving, christmas, easter and mother's day. One of the barriers low income families had was access to the free after- school program. Parents work during the day and could not get their children to the program. Volunteers also alert the staff at hope when there are indications of malnourishment, expired or unauthorized medications, unsafe conditions, neglect or signs of abuse. Should there be any indicators that require interventions; hope outreach center initiates immediate assistance with the help of community partners that specialize on services to senior citizens. The care program provides assistance to seniors registered in the program with the following: -friendly visitation & companionship -grocery shopping, transportation to doctor appointments and other errands -light housekeeping -holiday financial assistance -hot meal deliveries during holidays
