Mission: To inspire stewardship of our living world by providing conservation, education, and meaningful experiences to our community. The Zoo emphasizes Pacific tropical island ecosystems and our traditional values of ecosystems and our traditional values of mālama (caring) and ho`okipa (hospitality).

Programs: Guided tours, Twilight Tours, Zoo Camp, Outreach, Docents; all engaging experiences that highlight the importance of wildlife and our environmental impact. We host educational events such as Earth Day, community events such as the Wildest Show in Town, and fundraising events such as Boo at the Zoo! Our Membership program has a base of over 11,000 households! Our Volunteer program has provided over 4,000 hours of Zoo support in 2019 in roles such as: keeper assistants, beautifying zoo grounds, manning docent tables set up throughout the Zoo, participating in camp as Junior Leaders, helping build/break down tents for Zoo events, and participate during events.) The purpose of HZS is to be the fundraising support organization for the Honolulu Zoo. Portions of income received through fundraising, education programs, memberships and donations go back to the Zoo as direct cash support (exhibit maintenance, equipment, professional development, supplies not covered by City & County budget.) Portions are used for programmatic operation (staffing, supplies, software, equipment, camp field trips, Zoo-to-You van, marketing, and training.) Each year we set aside $15,000 to support the Aloha `Aina Conservation Fund, a committee supporting conservation initiatives in Hawai`i, the Pacific, and around the globe.
