Programs: The heinz fellows program- this grant represents funds used solely for heinz fellow's stipend payments, benefits and taxes, and human resources support and for hcv's role as fiscal managers of payroll and health benefits.
full service community school (fscs) - a full service community school is both a place of learning and a set of partnerships between community organizations working together to strategically improve student success. Working alongside teachers, fscs staff focus on improving student attendance; monitor the general wellbeing of students throughout the day; tutor, mentor and intervene on behalf of children. The fscs operated in the k-5 schools of pittsburgh faison k-5 and pittsburgh lincoln k-5.
office of promise fulfillment (opf) - the office of promise fulfillment promotes college readiness among young people to build a strong foundation for post-secondary learning and to facilitate college completion. The office of promise fulfillment engages high school students in both after-school and summer programming, helping them pursue the pittsburgh promise and to maximize their opportunities post graduation. Opf also supports students who have matriculated from our programming into their post-secondary experiences. Students receive modest stipends for activities that support improved academic performance and for pro-social behaviors.
evaluation and research - the office of evaluation and research develops the logic model framework for each of the organization's programs, evaluates progress and areas for growth, and provides data and feedback to managers and directors for the purpose of monitoring programs and services. Community affairs - reweaving the fabric of the community means reaching out and engaging our residents in the work of the village as well as supporting other community-related events that serve to celebrate and impact the neighborhood. Our community initiatives and engagement aim to enrich a vibrant social network in homewood by bringing people together around positive community events and expanding and enhancing the reach of hcv in the homewood community. Three annual signature events celebrate, support and acknowledge the community: back to school block party, coats-for-kids drive, and the hcv state of the village. Office of child and community health - through its health and wellness network, the homewood children's village builds partnerships and establishes programs to support child and community health in homewood focusing on nutrition and physical health. General and admin - this areas covers expenses and personnel that are essential to design and development of programming including a portion of time for the strategic management provided through staff within the office of the president and ceo and a portion of office space used for programming purposes. Nih - although researchers do not fully understand the causes of race disparities in asthma, they have learned that much of the risk is attributable to preventable social and environmental features of the neighborhoods where children live, learn, and play. In 2012, the university of pittsburgh's school of social work partnered with the homewood children's village to begin assessing the issue of children's asthma. Ultimately, this interdisciplinary research team aims to examine the lived experiences of poor urban children and their families in order to better understand asthma, as well as the non-asthma-related social determinants that may trigger asthma, shape the course and severity of the disease and undermine interventions to manage it. Urban innovations - economic development - grant to support development of economic development focused work in homewood and events to support creation and rebuilding of the homewood business district.
