Programs: New expectations is a residential alternative to incarceration for pregnant women. In this innovative project, pregnant, justice-involved women with substance use disorders who would otherwise be held in detention at the baylor women's correctional institution, are able to live in a congregate setting with 24-hour assistance so they can receive pre-natal care, attend treatment for their substance use disorder, and stay with their babies after they are born. The length of stay at new expectations is up to 15 months, allowing each woman to stay with her newborn for up to 6 months postpartum while she finds suitable living arrangement and source of income that enables her and her infant to live self-sufficiently.
