My name is Saymydarling and my experience with HIS-OC has been nothing short of AMAZING! no words will nor can suffice because the work that ALFA LETTY JOSIE ANTHONY AND THEIR TEAM DO is immaculate, from our very first meeting till now HANDS DOWN the greatest. I’ve seen many shelters but this specific organization aims to give you a more SAFE WARM AND HOME experience vs our HOMELESS REALITY. They offer EVERYTHING in their power to and for us to be successful and flourish, the work IS NOT EASY but very much UP TO US AND POSSIBLE if you want it bad enough. The way they SHOW UP for us AT ANY TIME showed me that THIS IS MORE than just a paycheck for them and that’s the DIFFERENCE between work and HEART WORK‼️ they do HEART WORK with passion and I DO NOT KNOW where we’d be had this organization not existed, being homeless is already crap BUT BEING WITHOUT THIS ORGANIZATION WOULD’VE BEEN CRAPPIER‼️ may GOD BLESS HIS-OC AND EVERYONE who’s had, still has and will have a hand in keeping this organization open for those in the future who are in need. THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU GUYS FOR YOUR HEART WORK AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL TENFOLD INDIVIDUALLY AND AS A UNIT IN ALL WAYS, ALWAYS❤️

My name is Jennifer I am a single mother of 3 ages 8, 7 and 1 after the passing of my partner it’s been financially hard for me. I was living in a rough environment for me and my children. I came across this great opportunity to move but didn’t have the finances to do so, I reached out and came across HIS-OC they helped me and my children move into a safe and better living environment. Also helping me furnish my apartment. Later down the line I needed help with my car and they were able to help me. I am very thankful for the help that they have provided for me and my children.

We moved here over a year ago to get Clean and sober. My husband and I were staying in separate sober living homes for a year and had to start looking for our own place. Our credit is horrible and apartment hunting was becoming a nightmare (and expensive). We heard about this program and really didn't expect much..SO WRONG. This program literally saved us from becoming homeless..again. Letty, my case manager walked us through everything and we now live in this amazing FURNISHED home that we love. She is always reaching out to make sure we are OK and our monthly check ins are always beneficial. I work at a treatment center and refer your program to all my clients. God has blessed us through your program and we will always be grateful to Letty and HISOC

HIS House Homeless Intervention Shelter is such a blessing to the community.
I came as a student to fulfill my internship requirements aiding and entertaining the children. When I became acquainted with the mission statement and bylaws of the shelter, I was transmuted and enamored by the entire organization. It inspired me to give and volunteer; wrapping presents; cleaning rooms; helping decorate rooms and participate in the Halloween and Christmas events to bless the children.
I am so impressed by the workshops; that work as life aids; to the residence. I love how this company doesn't enable a spirit of laziness or codependency. It remains a huge help and stepping stone to independent living and freedom. The entire program helps in enabling families to help themselves and get on their feet so they can even maintain their own stability once they've moved on from the shelter. It gives me joy that; while the parents are being aided toward independent living; the children of the families are not forgotten. They are entertained, helped and guided by the staff as well. (It really warms my heart and makes me proud to have been a part of that at HIS House).
I have never seen an organization like this before. This shelter is proof that there are people out there that aren't fully engrossed in their own selfish lifestyles and affairs. How humane HIS House is, encourages me. The love and kindness of all the staff inspires me to help their cause, as well as do humane acts within my community, that mirror theirs. I've seen how they've inspired so many private donors, as well as organizations such as churches and myself, to help. HIS House inspires people, and organizations, to help people... HIS House is a breath of fresh air.
I love how the love of the Lord Jesus is reflected so brightly at HIS House. It has really been an uplifting, motivating and influential establishment and organization; that I'm proud to have been a part of.

I am a graduate from the program.

I can tell you it is very structured and a safe haven. The place is clean the staff is amazing and truly they want what's best for you.
You do go to classes and have chores but it's like taking care of your own place. You are required to work. Having said that they have an amazing on staff rep who helps you with resumes and gives you tips for the interview. They have you save your money so when
move out you are ready.
If your looking to get stable and get on the right track this is the place for you with all kinds of resources to help you succeed.

Once I graduated the program I can tell you they still helped me when I asked with basic household needs. I would recommend this to anyone who is homeless or needs help getting back on your feet after a bad divorce whatever the case may be this place is a blessing in disguise.

I lived there a little over 2 years ago and I can tell you for the most part they were very helpful and uplifting. My case manager was not very helpful, but I did learn from it. But if you want to be encouraged and inspired and you want to better yourself and your life this is the place to be. You have to daily chores and you have a curfew however if you were living on your own daily chores are a given. They have so much to offer for you to grow and become independent, regardless of your situation if it's from you going through a divorce getting back on your feet, to being homeless to whatever it is they are here to help you succeed. If you find it in your heart to donate from kids clothes to school supplies they have several family's who could use your help. (Gently used items work as well) They helped me as I moved out.

I became aware of HIS House in Placentia when one of the families at my son's elementary school found themselves homeless.
I was so impressed with the way HIS House took this family in and made them feel like a welcome part of the community. But most important, I was notibly impressed with the skills they provided.
The family was required to participate in the up keep of the house. They were taught job seeking skills, resume writing skills, communication skills and parenting classes.
The family was able to get jobs and get back on their feet very quickly.
It is an amazing program. I wish more communities would embrace the HIS HOUSE program.

I left an abusive relationship after many years. I contacted many shelters and was turned away because of my oldest sons age, but H.I.S house took us in no problem. I did everything asked of me, it helped me so much. It is now 15 years later and I still appreciate everything they did. I had such a great support system, I now myself work for a shelter. Thank you H.I.S house for being a stepping stone for me and my children.

I don't necessarily have a personal experience here, but have a colleague that lived her for some time with a successful move out. HIS House completely changed her life for the better. So much so that she was able to move out, get a place of her own, even buy a car. This of course was about 8 years ago. Today she owns a home and lives in Nebraska. We both feel that HIS House is what saved her from being homeless.

I also administer a local community page and members are often sharing their experiences. HIS House cares a great deal about their members that come in and out their doors and I believe does a remarkable job with providing them with all of the tools they need, both financially and emotionally with support for them to graduate and become successful citizens of our society. I am always happy to support them and their tireless efforts of a literal helping hand.

This place is a scam they seek out your program fees, and then find a way to throw you out. They keep a file on you and anything they write can be seen as true even if its not the truth. If you say anything they will retaliate against you for having a say. I watch them kick everyone else out wrongly. Even families with children. Barely anyone finishes, or makes it to second step. You have no rights. I was cussed out by the resident manager nothing was done. Even if they say it is they lie to your face. This place is maybe for emergency stay for week, or 2 at the most but don't go in expecting to succeed. You would have to be a dead slave to their rules; by allowing them emotional and financial beat you too. My advice to any wanting to participate in the program please learn from my mistake. I want everyone to have an idea of what they are going in they advertise work your own program, but thats merely a ruse so you dont see what they are actually doing to others wrongfully. Read what they are telling you in the policies in procedures; really understand them before signing. Ask for your rights in the program. I can probably tell you now you have none because they refused to deny or agree of I had rights. It comes down to how much can they control you, and you say nothing

I joined the Board of HIS House over 2 years ago. I have been inspired by the dedicated board Members who are actively involved in volunteering for special projects, donating time, talent and money to support the success of this organization. I am even more inspired by the staff who work together daily with the residents assisting them in their journey towards supporting themselves and their families in a better life. Being able to live in a place of their own, working, and being productive and providing their children stability as they grow and mature. HIS House is a safe haven for those wanting to move away from homelessness into a better life for those they care about. HIS House has been highly successful in this goal for all they serve.

Local transitional homeless shelter that's been serving the community for over 26 years. Small, dedicated team of staff, led by an energetic and talented Exec Director. Mission is to develop self-sufficiency and life skills to ensure future success. Only homeless shelter in OC that takes in single dads with their kids for reunification. Strongly supported by local service groups such as Rotary, Kiwanis and the Placentia Roundtable. Half of operating budget provided by dedicated thrift store sales staffed by over 100 volunteers. A true jewel within the community that quietly excels achieving 84% success rate.

I am currently an Intern at HIS House as well as a volunteer and can tell you from my personal experience that HIS House is a wonderful facility and provides a great program for those homeless individuals that are in need of a second chance in life. HIS House provides the necessary means and programs that allow those said individuals that are in need of assistance. Once the individuals whom have been helped graduate from the program, they are then able to go out into society and be self-sufficient and become a productive individual and feel like they have that second chance at a better life.

I have been involved with HIS House, Placentia, for about 15 years, and have served in a number of positions on the board (including chair). The community response to this service in our midst has been overwhelming with a large number of churches and civic organizations providing support. There are groups that provide backpacks for the children for school, that give birthday presents to each resident, that donate packages with toiletries, and on and on.

The program has been extremely successful in reuniting families and is the only one that we know of in Orange County that supports single dads in this process. We have some wonderful stories from residents on the happiness brought about by having their family together again.

The shelter has a computer lab with a counselor/teacher to help residents with computer skills needed to get work, and to help write job-getting resumes. The program has been expanded over the years and now includes at least two 'second-step' facilities for those who graduate from the shelter program. This program provides low cost rental property to help graduates merge back into complete self-sufficiency.

One measure of our success has been a very high graduation rate of those entering the program. HIS House has been, and continues to be, a well run, viable program to help those who want to help themselves escape homelessness.

From Placentia Presbyterian Church....The Homeless Intervention Shelter, referred to as H.I.S. House, was initiated by the Placentia Presbyterian Church congregation in 1989, and is a transitional living center for singles, couples, families, and single-parent families. I was a member when this idea was originated. At that time, I was not aware that HIS House would be such an amazing program for our Placentia community. Residents are screened for ability to work and for motivation to achieve self-sufficiency. While living at H.I.S. House for up to four months, residents are provided with assistance in budgeting, job skills, parenting, personal counseling and other personal need areas. Grants and funds are made available for residents who wish to return to school and improve their job skills.

Additionally, H.I.S. House operates a second house on Bradford as a second step program where up to six successful graduates have the opportunity to live for six additional months, paying minimal rent. This provides graduates extra time for more savings and readies them for independence.

Since its inception, H.I.S. House has been home to over 2,000 families, singles and children. The Lord has blessed H.I.S. House as we provide help and hope for a new beginning for so many in our community. It is now a community supported organization with volunteers coming from so many areas in Placentia and beyond.

This organization has been and will continue to be a blessing to its residents, its staff and the volunteers. It brings our community together to help people go from homeless to hopeful and independent.

HIS House is a wonderful place that helps so many people experiencing homelessness. The house is so inviting and home like. It makes it feel like home. Families who stayed at HIS House have nice things to say about their stay at the shelter.
