I have volunteered with Neighbor Link several times and joined this year in a more regular volunteering/supervising position. Volunteering with Neighbor Link allows me to be outside and out in my community, face to face with my neighbors, and I can truly see the impact that I am making on my community and for my neighbors. The work that we do at Neighbor Link is essential and allows our neighbors to live safely and comfortably in their own homes, which they love dearly!

i have worked several clean ups with the NLI team, the care with which they communicate to homeowners is so amazing and respectful. The ways in which NLI helps inspire change in the communities of Indianapolis is enough that one person can make a difference through their work but the impact serves families and communities crucial to what makes Indy.

I got to know about the work of Neighborlink Indy (NLI) when I was contacted about getting students at the university where I worked involved as volunteers. That shortly led to me volunteering my time as well. NLI helps low income seniors and those with disabilities safely age in place with dignity in the homes they own. NLI provides home repairs and other upkeep (gutter cleaning, painting, etc.) free of charge, utilizing a network of volunteers and skilled labor (either pro bono or paid for through resources raised by the organization). The organization takes time to get to know the clients served and can often make referrals to address other difficulties they may be experiencing. The process of volunteering for NLI is a joyful one. The care and concern of the staff is evident, as is the gratitude of those who are helped through the services provided. By keeping long-time residents safely in their homes, not only is the individual and his or her family lifted up, the neighborhood and community-at-large are also strengthened.

Neighborlink Indianapolis (NLI) is an empowering organization that not only does good for the people they assist, but the offer's its volunteers a wonderful and valuable experience. I should know! I started volunteering with NLI during my first year of medical school in 2020, the Saturday morning projects saved me from the grind of school and allowed me to feel connected to my community during a year that left me isolated (for better and for worse). NLI's goal to allow seniors and those with disabilities to stay put and live in the same house they have for many years is one that works well with my medical school education. People's health is better when they experience less stress and moving is certainly a strong source of unneeded stress, but more overstaying in place improves a number of social determinants of health! When moving to a new location, the person needs to learn their new location. They need to figure out where to get groceries, how they can get to the doctor, and how they may find the social support they would have been accustom to in their previous residence. Because of all these reasons and many more NLI's mission is exceedingly necessary and ultimately, powerful.

I have been a volunteer for NeighborLink for several years now. I do this because every time I see that we have made a tangible difference for someone. We help people who really need help and have few option. We keep people in their home. When people feel they can stay in their home, they also feel they can hold on to their dignity.

NeighborLink is also an easy one to participate with. No skills are required. I see new volunteers all the time. I see young people making the effort to volunteer on their own, or as part of an organization. These volunteers also gain by learning skills and general building trades from the regular, experienced volunteers.

If someone wants to volunteer their time to a good cause, see immediate results from their efforts, and even increase their own skill sets, NeighborLink is the answer.

I was part of the committee that nominated Neighborlink to receive Impact 100's Changemaker grant. This organization is one of the most innovative and impactful nonprofits that we had come across in recent years. They are serving a vulnerable population that is in desperate need of the valuable services they offer. We are thrilled to see them expand and therefore be able to serve even more of the community.

NeighborLink is truly dedicated to the community. To see the hard work - most of it physical and manual labor - that the organization does to give back to others in the surrounding Indianapolis area is remarkable. The employees and volunteers care about others and it shows each time they help someone with upgrades and improvements to a home. Would absolutely volunteer with them again.

To say I appreciate Neighborlink's impact in the communities they serve is an understatement. Their ability to help someone in need and give needed facelifts to parts of Indianapolis communities is top class. Thanks to this amazing organization, I've found purpose in helping locals. Every hour on a ladder, trash bag filled, paint brush stroke, and sanding swipe is worth it!

Five stars to Neighborlink for their thoughtful approach to impactful community service!

I've have now had a couple of opportunities to work with Neighborlink on volunteer activities. In my experience, Neighborlink has gone above and beyond in so many aspects. They have given me the opportunity to give back in ways that I would not have had otherwise. My most recent opportunity was painting. I am not a professional painter by any means. But, as we began to paint a home and seeing eyes light up was priceless. No amount of money is worth more than to see a smile on another individuals face. Thank you Neighborlink for ALL that you do for the community. Your time and effort does not go unnoticed.

Phenomenal organization. I showed up for a gutter replacement project. I didn't bring any tools or knowledge of how to do anything, but Tom, Dave, Todd, and Adam were extremely welcoming. They gave me whatever tools I needed and taught me how to do what needed to be done, and they were encouraging and supportive the whole time. And we successfully replaced the gutters for someone who had received a citation but didn't have the means to replace his own gutters. Definitely looking forward to my next NeighnorLink project!

My first project with NeighborLink was helping clean out an elderly woman's home. It was mind-blowing to me seeing the conditions she lived in and primarily because she didn't have the mobility to do something so simple as straighten. Over the years the problem just kept compiling on top of itself until she felt like she was drowning in her own stuff. I loved getting to know the homeowner and helping make her space safe and usable again.

NeighborLink Indianapolis is a great nonprofit. It is run by a group of volunteers helping low income seniors with home repairs needed in order to remain in their home. They maximize the use of donations by using volunteer groups for yard clean up, painting etc. Paid professionals are used as needed for more difficult jobs. By using volunteers as much as possible, overhead is low & more funding goes toward the program mission.

Neighborhlink has provided countless individuals with assistance. They are a wonderful asset to the community and without them many people would go without needed repairs to there homes both on the interior and exterior. They have helped individuals paint there home, repaired damaged siding, installed gutters and downspouts, remove dilapidated garages and so many other repairs to the exterior of homes. They have also helped to get furnaces and water heaters repaired or replaced, repaired floors, fixed toilets and help to get multiple other repairs made on the interior of homes. They have given assistance to individuals that need to clean up the inside of there home to make it a safer place to live and have helped to get yards cleaned up and have had trash removed from both the interior and exterior of homes. Without Neighborlink's assistance multiple people would continue to go without having their basic needs met. They have been able to provide assistance in so many ways and have had a huge impact on the lives of those they are able to help.

This nonprofit is a grass roots program that will assist the neediest and poorest individuals in the Community. Often times people worked and was able to take care of their home. They retired and noticed that the house they live in is beginning to need repairs. The homeowners monthly income is not able to cover the basic repairs. This is where Neighbor-link comes in by servicing the Community with volunteers who have a variety of talents that may be able to meet the requests from homeowners to keep rot and decay at bay.
I have always admired the dedication to the individuals who give so graciously of their time and talent to help others remain aging in place. Thank you Neighbor-link.

Neighborlink has been an excellent partner to CICOA since it's inception. We work together regularly to identify the best resources to serve at risk seniors in Marion county. Neighborlink makes referral to CICOA for clients with home modification and accessibility needs and CICOA refers to Neighborlink for more general home repair needs. This has been a great alliance which allows us to effectively serve those in need.

The issue is, can someone stay in their home or not. NeighborLink identifies those people in need of home repairs that are needed to keep them in their homes. These are safety items as well as local code violations. I am on the Gutter Team. Once a month several volunteers spend a Saturday morning replacing roof gutters on someone's home that probably has been sited by the city for code violations and cannot afford to make the repairs. This helps that homeowner and the neighborhood in general. The results are immediate and tangible.

I got involved with NeighborLink when it was just a handful of recently retired men and women trying to help some low-income seniors stay in their own homes. This is an all volunteer outfit that works constantly to get seniors who lack resources (family, money, whatever) the home repairs and modifications necessary to keep their homes habitable. I've seen them put evicted homeowners back in their homes, I've seen them get burned homes rebuilt, I've seen clean water and functioning sewers returned to hundreds of homes, new roofs, new furnaces in freezing weather, hand rails, grab bars, health department citation resolutions - you name it. If it can drive a senior out of their home, NeighborLink has a way of helping. And I know personally that over 90% of donated funds go directly into the homes they assist. It's a great community based nonprofit. We need a lot more like them!

NeighborLink Indianapolis is fantastic. I worked with them to get a new roof and gutters installed for a low-income senior homeowner who is also disabled. NeighborLink bought the materials and located a roofing company that was willing to provide the roofing expertise and labor for free. They then organized a group of volunteers to install new gutters for the homeowner. All work was professionally performed, the results were outstanding and the homeowner was elated.

As a Geriatric Social Worker for Eskenazi Health, I interact with many Marion County seniors who have lived in their homes for a very long time. Most of them, more than 30 years. These seniors have been community leaders and contributors, but now find themselves with a limited income and a home that they cannot afford to maintain. NeighborLink offers opportunities to make their homes safe and maintained, so that they can continue to be happy and healthy in the neighborhood that they helped build. This amazing nonprofit organization also provides an opportunity for others to meet these wonderful citizens and give back to them a little of what the long time home owners have given to Indianapolis over their long lives.
