Mission: Fr. Elwood Cassedy founded HOTR in 1950 to address the needs of homeless boys. As an office page in the 1920s, Cassedy had seen the effects induced by neglect and homelessness as he traveled the streets of New York City. Boys came from across the United States to the Irish priest''s refuge.
In 1990, the doors were opened to girls.
Services to children and families, leadership in the child care field, and the conviction to making a healthier and stronger world characterize the HOTR philosophy. This philosophy is built on a foundation of Christian values and brings healing to families.
Programs: A Corporation under the auspices of the Bismarck Catholic Diocese, Home On The Range is a licensed residential child care facility. We provide a therapeutic environment for our boys and girls. Many residents have had problems in school, are victims of abuse, harbor feelings of anger, or face drug and alcohol addictions.
Our goal is to teach valuable life skills to youth and their families. Youth start by learning basic social skills; family members join them for intensive 3-day Strengthening Family Workshops. The comprehensive approach also includes educational, vocational, spiritual, and recreational components.
Home On The Range cares for a total of 62 children ages 12 - 18.
