I went to the emergency room for pain in my pelvis and upon examination was told that I had a bladder infection and a blood infection. Bladder infections for males are rare so I listened intently as a young physician began to intimate and finally spelled it out that I had Gonorrhea of all things, in conjunction with the bladder infection. Being 75 years old and with no sexual history over the past 15 years, I was completely taken aback. The nurse administered a shot into my buttock and I was dismissed with a prescription for Keflex(I later found out that this medication was not compatible in curing the bladder infection) to aid in curing my bladder infection. A few days later, I received a call from a nurse stating I should call him back so he could explain a few things about my ER visit. Upon calling the emergency room, I said I am returning a Male Nurse's call and I was promptly told by the person, nurse, doctor on the other end of the phone that patient information was never discussed on the phone in such a tone that I could not believe I was dealing with a professional person. I called again after the hospital shift changed in hopes of finding out why this male nurse had called me. Again, I was told, with no invective limited that I should never call again and that the Nurse in question would be unavailable indeterminately. I have never been treated so badly by this hospital staff in my life and as being a 75 year old Disabled American Veteran. I went to the Manager of Client relations, explained what happened, he asked for the male nurse to attend our meeting as well. All of this could have been avoided by a follow-up phone call from the Male Nurse explaining that the KEFLEX prescription was incorrect and that the Gonorrhea lab diagnosis was incorrect as well. The upshot of all this was nothing happened. I never found the name of the Doctor who made the diagnosis, the lab technician who performed the serology tests or the name of the individual in the ER who answered my phone call and played the Nurse Cratchet performance about patient privacy. Nothing. Now, they have not BILLED the ER Visit incorrectly. Under Veteran's Choice, I can as a Veteran go to any emergency room supporting Veterans Choice without payment of any kind because of DV status. The claim should have been processed through; Veterans Choice Program - VCAA, P O Box 2748, Virginia Beach, Va. 23450. Evidently it wasn't. And to add insult to injury, after explaining this to the billing department, They engaged a credit collection agency for the whole amount of 1,674.55, not just the "deductible". Poor, so evidently Poor service, inquiry and resolution. Now They will find out how a Disabled Veteran Ex Special Forces Sergeant handles things. Be Vigilant if and when you ever have to go to this facility. I cannot believe the "treatment" I am still experiencing.. What issues could have been cleared up in two days caused me over a month's worth of pain, humiliation and now financial/credit issues. All because they refused to deal with issues on a personal level. No calls, No personal contact. So very sad that my Mother's companion contributed over $500,000 to this institution. The monies sure look like it didn't go to medical service
I recently gave a gift to support the cancer research program at Holy Cross. I felt it was a fitting tribute to a lovely woman that I knew who passed away from cancer recently. Now, I enjoy passing by the wall in the lobby of the cancer center and reading my friend's name on the wall. It's another way that her legacy will live on.
As a volunteer at Holy Cross Hospital which was founded by the Sisters of Mercy, the Christ like care and compassion is is demonstrated throughout the hospital. My time is spent in the Infusion Dept. of the Cancer Center. The director, nurses, registrars, volunteers, pharmacy, and research department all provide and communicate to the patient their treatment and allow for questions to be asked and answered. The hospital also provides for nutritional teaching, chairside massage, and the therapy dog visits are welcomed with open arms. An area which is very challenging, provides hope and comfort to all.
Holy Cross Hospital provides a superior caring environment for excellent care for patients. They provide for outstanding spiritual and physical care and have a wellness program that is the envy of the area.Their community outrech progams fills the void for many senior citizens and lower income people bu providing an array of need services. It is a great place to contribute to and grow with as well as healing.
