Mission: The Mission of Historic St. Luke's Restoration is to preserve, protect, and promote this historic landmark and its collections, documents, history, graveyard, and surroundings.
Results: Since 1954 Historic St. Luke's Restoration has restored the 17th-century church building twice fulfilling its obligation to preserve this National Historic Landmark and hosted thousands of visitors through daily guided tours, educational programs, special events, and school tour groups. As Virginia's Oldest Church we continue to serve the Greater Smithfield and Coastal Virginia communities.
Target demographics: local residents and visitors to the region better understand the important stories of early American pursuits of religious freedom and separation of church & state at Virginia's Oldest Church.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 6,000 visitors and 2,200 virtual stakeholders
Geographic areas served: Coastal Virginia (Hampton Roads), Virginia, USA
Programs: academic symposia on native, african, and european american histories, architectural history, historic preservation, religious history, and archaeology. School group programming designed for private and public school and homeschool groups.
