Mission: Historic seattle was established in 1974 as a legal entity through which citizens may participate in preservation of historic heritage of the city of seattle for the mutual pride of all citizens and the creation of a more livable environment. Historic seattle is an advocate for and active participant in thoughtful and meaningful preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings, landscapes and architectural artifacts.
Programs: Supported the efforts of historic seattle pda which used the funds to further their efforts to preserve historic buildings
over 1,500 people attended historic seattle events and programs in 2014, our 40th anniversary year. Historic seattle led out- of -town tours to the skagit city light hydroelectric facilities, as well as to tacoma, and king county (bothell, kenmore, kirkland). We offered local tours on first hill and celebrated the centennial of ellsworth storey cottages in mt. Baker. We presented the documentary "the greenest building" and a panel discussion following it, produced a musical evening at washington hall, held a workshop on stained glass, offered a tour of the exhibit deco japan at seattle art museum, and produced a successful 8 part series digging deeper historic research series. In december we launched a major publication, transition and change on seattle's first hill. Free quarterly member meetings brought members and the public to sites of historic and architectural interest across seattle and king county (frye art museum, northwest school, trinity episcopal church, and sorrento hotel). The organization hosted its sixth annual historic preservation awards on may 13, attracting over 120 guests to acknowledge successes in the field. The event was sponsored by keybank with additional support from 4culture.
capital campaign for the rehabilitation of wa hall generated pledges and contributions from individuals and foundations in the current year as well as grants and awards from public sources which will be contracted and recieved in future years.
