Mission: Since 1984, WPHF has supported the mission and programs of The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, itself a regional healthcare leader since 1848. WPHF contributes to the health of our community by mobilizing people and resources to enable the hospital to provide the most technologically advanced care with competence and compassion.
The foundation acts as a conduit between West Penn Hospital and its grateful community by accepting unrestricted and program-specific donations from patients, families, employees, physicians and the community-at-large for a variety of programs. The foundation coordinates special fundraising events and programs including annual appeals, a Corporate Golf Classic, Aluminum Cans for Burned Children recycling program, and a blsck-tie gala.

West Penn Burn Center is the largest burn care facility in the tri-state area and the only American Burn Association-accredited burn unit in Pittsburgh. A dedicated multidisciplinary team of medical and paramedical professionals with expertise in burn care provides the most advanced care and treatment for all types of burns, as well as emotional and psychological counseling, nutrition planning, burn prevention education and physical and occupational therapy.
West Penn Burn Center provides care for burn victims of all ages and historically admits over 500 inpatients/year.The Center has treated more than 7,000 inpatients and 10,000 outpatients, placing it among the top burn facilities in the United States. Approximately 50% of patients are from the 6 county area surrounding the hospital including Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Washington and Westmoreland. The other 50% of patients come from other Pennsylvania areas, West Virginia and Ohio. Burn prevention education and extensive community outreach programs are provided for childcare providers, students, health care professionals and the general public. Special programs are offered for pediatric patients, including the Children's Playroom, the Back-to-School Program and Summer Camp for Burned Children. Since 1986, Camp is held each June at Camp Kon-O-Kwee outside Zelienople, PA. The five-day adventure provides children ages seven to 17 with the chance to enjoy traditional camp activities and special outings while meeting friends who share their experiences. Camp is free to all children who have been treated in West Penn Burn Center. Burn camp costs $30,000 a year; Burn prevention education costs $100,00 a year
