Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Community Health Systems, Health

Mission: Since 1984, WPHF has supported the mission and programs of The Western Pennsylvania Hospital, itself a regional healthcare leader since 1848. WPHF contributes to the health of our community by mobilizing people and resources to enable the hospital to provide the most technologically advanced care with competence and compassion.

The foundation acts as a conduit between West Penn Hospital and its grateful community by accepting unrestricted and program-specific donations from patients, families, employees, physicians and the community-at-large for a variety of programs. The foundation coordinates special fundraising events and programs including annual appeals, a Corporate Golf Classic, Aluminum Cans for Burned Children recycling program, and a blsck-tie gala.

In times of extreme uncertainty, the Western Pennsylvania Hospital Foundation has remained earnestly committed to honoring the intent of its donors. With numerous demands placed on the Foundation, it always prioritizes the exact desire of those who contributed the funds that it now oversees. Its ability to remain focused and its dedication to its original purpose separate it from many foundations today that acquiesce to pressures for the reallocation of funds. Many times, these "reallocations" occur within the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law. I am proud to be associated with an organization that is dedicated to doing what is right as well as the right thing.
