Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs

Mission: To provide mentoring and nurturing to children living in public housing

Programs: Princess academy/king's men academy - six week abstinence-based program for adolescents to adress hormones, the cost of promiscuity, etc. Precious jewels - nine-month character building program for 1st-4th grade girls addresses fear, loss or trauma in the home and encouragement to help others more needy than themselves. G. I. R. L. S. (experiencing god in real life situations) girls 8th grade & up participate in group bible study and recive one-on-one mentoring by college students addressing many areas of life and character development. Caleb science club is for 5th graders and up. It promotes academic excellence primarily in the area of science. University physicians, nurses, med students and technicians offer hands-on science lessons each month. Occasional field trips visit places like the st. Louis science center. Spirit riders is a horseback riding program for 10-18 year olds. It teaches basic skills of horsemanship amd participants receive one-on-one mentoring from spirit rider volunteers. The goal is to help develop a healthy work ethic and healthy competitive spirit to combat the sense of hopelessness and defeat so common amont public housig children.

daily/weekly programs - services like simple organized games and activities, classes, homework assistance, and organized parties are provided for families who are not able to provide these things for their children. Granny's house also prepares and serves a free evening meal for 25-40 children ages 4-12 in public housing every week night

kaa camp - provides a 10 day christian based camping experience for inner city youth ages 10-18 at a campsite located near the missouri arkansas border. Activities include 28 different sports, daily devotionals, life skills, leadership skills and christian character development. Granny's house takes 10-20 youth and 4 staff members.

special events: 1. Back to school festival--food, fun, backpacks full of school supplies 2. Christmas party 3. Mom's outreach event with gifts 4. Participation in health fair and distribution of health kits 5. Mission trip to jamaica. Special funds were donated to fund a trip for one staff member and two teens to join a short term medical mission to jamica. Charity - monthly donation to missionaries in haiti help children experience the blessing of supporting god's efforts for people who have less than they do.
