Mission: To provide shelter and to engage in dedicated efforts to eliminate domestic violence. The organization provides advocacy, support, and education to those who have been affected by domestic violence in the cities of chesapeake and portsmouth, virginia. The shelter also provides emergency shelter to women and children every night and provides programs to help them become self sufficient.
Programs: Crisis services- provide a 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis counseling, intensive case management, shelter, food and support to over 400 women and children every year. H. E. R. Focuses on the long term stabilization of each client and family through a focus on rapid rehousing and permanent solutions.
childrens program - offers individual, age appropriate, trauma assessment and care plans. Each child is provided screening for developmental, educational, emotional and physical health to ensure long term care and success is achieved. H. E. R. Provides tutoring, support groups, field trips and creative opportunities to triumph over trauma.
