Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries
Mission: Alleviate hunger as well as educate and direct families to additional resources in the community.
Programs: Direct food distribution. Heartland hunger opperates a weekly pantry in mccall,id distributing donated and purchased foods and essential household items to local families. Over 3000 weekly meals were provided to families. Last year 2600 hours were donated by 300 volunteers.
woodstock- an annual day of service of preparing wood for families in the community. The resource center provides the wood through donations. Last year 2,000 hours were donated by 350 volunteers to help with; cutting logs into rounds, splitting, loading, and delivery of the wood. The wood was distributed to over 100 families in valley county who will need wood in the winter to heat their homes.
heartland kids- a program that provides healthy snacks to local elementary school children. Last year we provided snacks to over 480 children. Funds are provided to allow all children the opportunity to purchase books during school sponsored book fairs. This impacted over 240 kids in the community. Each year scholarships are awarded to those who are wishing to pursue higher education. With help from st. Lukes we are able to provide diapers, formula coupons and baby food.
aftin- assistance for transients in needa community resource dedicated to assisting eligible participants with lodging, bus fare, fuel, food and other needs as appropriate. This one time service is administered via specified volunteers for transients referred by local churches, groups and hospitals. The resource center provides food bags as needed to aftin recipients. This program has served over 40 people in 2017.
