Programs: Since 2001, heartland chamber music has hosted internationally recognized summer chamber music festivals for thousands of students ages 6-76. These festivals develop audiences for the future of arts, support existing chamber music concert series in kansas city and are a model for developing leadership and communication skills that build confidence through performance. Heartland chamber music (hcm) festivals bring together a diverse and electic ensemble of audience, musicians and educators from both sides of the kansas and missouri state line, reach across the nation, and even the world with international faculty and students participating. In 2017 the hcm festival brought with it the opportunity for faculty and students to work with the grammy award winning, internationally renowned harlem string quartet. In 2017, the combined impact of programs has served nearly 500 students. With 18 free concerts attended by approximately 1,900 audience members, faculty and staff. As a result over 2,400 people were touched by heartland chamber music.
string sprouts launched with 4 classes (56 students) in 4 locations throughout the kansas city metro area: guadalupe center, early ed center in kansas city,ks, holliday elementary in kcmo public schools, and hiersteiner child development center at jccc. This groundbreaking program is a free early childhood education violin program for children ages 3-8 with roots in the suzuki violin method and el sistema. Students receive the following free of charge: violin, weekly violin group lessons, weekly
stringendo accomplishments: 37 young musicians from ages 8-18 from across the kansas city metropolitan area worked one on one with professional musicians for a total of 20 hours and presented a chamber music concert for an audience of 160 at the end of the 10 week session. Adult workshop accomplishments: 22 adult amateurs gathered for the 4 day workshop and played alongside hcm faculty and members of the kansas city symphony for a total of 10 hours and presented a final concert for an audience o
