Mission: A statewide organization that concentrates and strengthens the efforts of michigan's land conservation community. Partners with member land conservancies, policy makers, and leading conservation organizations across the state to champion a common goal of increasing the pace & quality of michigan land protection.
Programs: Heart of the lakes provides a suite of training and mentoring services to strengthen the effectiveness of our members and other organizations to help them reach the highest legal, ethical and technical standards in land and water conservation.
power of nature: as a statewide thought leader, heart of the lakes produced the power of nature video series. The series increases visibility and support for land and water conservation by featuring first person, moving and relevant stories of individuals affected by nature. The program encourages people to think differently, create dialogue, promote participation, and take action to become champions for the natural resources that contribute to the quality of life in communities throughout michigan.
farmland preservation advocacy: heart of the lakes engages in advocacy to maintain and strengthen the conservation of working farmland that provide a clear public benefit for the people of michigan. Heart of the lakes keeps members, supporters, and partners informed about farmland preservation issues, opportunities to identify and engage in farmland policy, and identifies and develops policy strategies to address permanent funding for farmland preservation in michigan.
