Causes: Health, Patient & Family Support
Mission: The heart of passion leadership development program guides high school students in atlanta, ga, charlotte, nc, and new orleans, la, in business and leadership lessons while the students plan and implement their own summer retreats for teens with cancer.
Programs: Hop hosted two four-day, all-expense-paid overnight retreats (one each in atlanta and new orleans). We trained 23 high school students to lead the retreats with the help of 7 adult volunteers. In total, the retreats served approximately 46 teens with cancer from five different hospitals. They were accompanied by 12 chaperones representing their hospitals. Each retreat also had between two and seven hop adult chaperones depending on the size. We held a third program in charlotte, which split our calendary year 2017 programming across fiscal years. Fundraising and planning was conducted primarily in fy 2017, but the event and related expenses were incurred in fy 2018.
