Programs: Ukrainein 2016, healthright and our implementing partner the ukrainian foundation for public health (ufph) directly reached 16,870 women, men, and children and built capacity of local civil society organizations in eight regions of ukraine through an array of programs. Our core projects in 2016 included a service center for women and girls in kyiv, which provides outreach services, comprehensive psychosocial and legal assistance, access to medical care for street involved, hiv-positive, internally displaced or affected by violence women and girls and their family members.
kenyain 2016, healthright continued our work leading projects in elgeyo marakwet county in kenya's north rift valley dedicated to essential maternal and newborn care, family planning (fp) and hiv/aids. In partnership with the johns hopkins program for international education in gynecology and obstetrics, saving mothers, project c. U. R. E. , and sobon, a local ngo, healthright conducted a study to evaluate the effectiveness of task-sharing among community health workers to provide maternal and neonatal care services.
human rights clinic2016 marked the 23rd year of the human rights clinic (hrc). Started in the bronx in 1993 in partnership with the north central bronx hospital and montefiore medical center's residency program in primary care and social internal medicine, healthright international's hrc has since expanded to operate in 12 locations around the country: arizona, california, colorado, connecticut, district of columbia, maine, maryland, new jersey, new york, pennsylvania, virginia and washington state. Over the past 20+ years, the hrc has: a. Trained over 1,500 physicians and mental health professionals to provide forensic evaluations and document signs of torture in survivorssupplemental info:program service accomplishments: seeking asylum and other protections in the u. S. B. Provided more than 6,500 pro bono forensic evaluations to over 5,500 survivors of torture and other gross human rights abuses from 130 countries c. Connected hundreds of hrc clients to needed medical, psychological, social and other services throughout the u. S. Healthright international provides forensic evaluations to between 200-400 survivors per year, relying on hrc-trained volunteersaround the country. Approximately 90% of all hrc clients are granted asylum or other immigration relief, and nearly half of all clients access follow-up comprehensive remote case management services through the access to support and services for survivors of torture (assist) program. Assist serves as a bridge between clients, legal representatives, hrc volunteer clinicians and community resources inall 12 hrc sites. Assist helps clients overcome the lasting effects of torture and the daily challenges of resettlement so they can beginhealthy, hopeful new lives in the u. S.
