Programs: Laos project - over the past 27 years health frontiers has helped the lao university of health sciences to build the first post graduate medical education program in lao history. In the past year the university graduated 9 more pediatricians and 10 more internists for a total of 198 primary health specialists to date. They are now helping to transform primary health care in a desperately needy population. We also helped the university to launch new residency program this year in emergency medicine. In earlier programs, however, we have reduced our role while increasing support for subspecialty training of top lao graduates in collaboration with khon kaen university and other regional centers. These will be the sub specialists who replace the volunteers.

uganda project: this project has roots in hiv-infected babies studied during the 1990's. Those who survived to school age have had their school fees paid by the investigator, and friends. The project was later broadened by a remarkable maryland family after one of them had an unforgetable assignment in the hiv/aids children's ward at mulago hospital. Since then, they have assembled an annual contribution for the neediest children at mulago. Now others are contributing. We wire these funds to the makerere johns hopkins research collaboration in kampala, where trusted colleagues guarantee they will be well spent where most needed. More donors are welcome.
