Healing Box Project

From co-founder and instructor, Dave:
One morning, early, I received a call from a Veteran involved with our project. This call was testimony as to how "one guitar" can make a difference in someone's life.
For privacy, I will call the caller "John" and here's what he told me:
I said "hello" and the reply was "Hello this is John and I'm calling to let you know you saved my life last night". I said "how's that, John?" He said "well, I was going to end it all last night. And as I paced back and forth around my place, that guitar you gave me caught my eye. I took it from the spot where it was leaning against the wall to play it one last time. When I began strumming, the sounds changed how I was feeling...the thoughts of suicide were erased and replaced with music. And I played the guitar until the sun came up. I thought you should know." I talked with 'John' for a short while letting him know how glad I was that he called to tell me about his ordeal and suggested he should keep that guitar "close by" and try to find another person to play guitar with.
While this story alone reassures my belief that music can heal the soul, it is proof that a guitar can save a life !
The story doesn't end here. John, while looking for another person to "jam with" found other Veterans with "issues" similar to his. John eventually formed his own charity to help those people he came to know, and many more. We, from The Healing Box Project, feel blessed to know how our efforts have been "reborn" in a sense...
And, through the efforts of John forming his charity he met a lady, fell in love, got married and now has a daughter. He has truly overcome loneliness and has a shining future.
We talk a couple time a year. He tells me the trauma of combat will always be with him, but he's got a friend that can ease the pain...his guitar.
