Beware of this organization! I had never heard of Heading Home until one of their “clients” moved into my condo building. The almost 6 months she lived there was pure torture. This woman would blast vulgar music all day late into the night, screamed and cursed constantly so loudly you could hear her through the walls even cursing at her crying baby, and cursed out neighbors randomly. Countless times this organization was contacted about her behavior and nothing changed. It got to the point where neighbors had to call the police on this person. From my experience, they do nothing they claim to do from their mission statement posted on their website. Yes, they gave this woman a place to live, but how could Heading Home possibly set this person on a path to self sufficiently when they did nothing to address these unacceptable and concerning behaviors? Where was the “life skills development” they claim to provide. They just let this person sit in the house all day and cause problems. They paid her rent and turned a blind eye on her behavior and development. I have made sure to warn any charitable donors and landlords I know about this horrific experience. This organization caused a lot of suffering to myself and the people in my building causing people to feel unsafe and distressed in their own homes. While I am sure they are well intentioned at heading home, in my opinion they are just flat out stupid and incredibly disorganized. If you’re thinking about working with them in any way or donating to them, think again.
Heading Home Inc., has not been no help to my family and has actually caused a lot more problems for my family. Some of the program manager of housing stabilization from 1452 Dorchester ave, ma 02122 has been harassing my family. And actually been doing foul play behind the scene and making themselves look good for their boss in order to keep their job and to receive better pay. Most of the workers their doesn't care about the clients and their children. They are there just for a pay check and to destroy more families of the low income communities. Most of the workers of Heading Home Inc. think they are better then their clients of the poor and disrespect them as well. Such as talking about clients among themselves and talking down to clients.such as insulting clients and their families.Being involved with this program made me feel very uncomfortable and made me feel less more unhappy of my situation. I don't recommend no one to work for Heading Home Inc. I also don't recommend the poor to participate in Heading Home Inc. Program/Shelter they are very unprofessional and they discriminate against families of the poor.
I worked for Heading Home, Inc. (formerly Shelter Inc.) for almost five years. During my time there I was able to grow and learn a lot. I also was able to take advantage of great opportunities for moving up in my career in the field of social work. The work that Heading Home does to assist homeless families and individuals is important work and it works hard to do this work well. It is definitely a progressive non-profit that is discovering innovative ways to assist families in moving out of poverty and into greater stability. In fact, during my time there, the agency grew tremendously in size and also in its number of programs. Some of my most memorable moments include being a part of Up and Out moves in which donors decorate and fully furnish an apartment for a homeless family. It was very touching to witness the gratitude of homeless families moving into these apartments. It also includes times of interacting with the staff members who are warm, open and passionate about the work of helping families and individuals. Heading Home, Inc. is making a major impact on families in Boston and Metro Boston and it will continue to do so on an increasing level as long as a need still exists for this type of work.
