Hazelwood Initiative Inc

Programs: One of hazelwood initiative's largest programs is community development. During 2014 hazelwood initiative accomplished many tasks through its community development program, including; purchasing a vacant neighborhood school and leasing it to a charter school operation, purchasing two distressed residential unitls for rehab-for resale to low/middle income family/individuals, land banked five parcels for develpment as a public park and kaboom playground. Hazelwood initiative also land banked nine properties for future residential redevelopment, conducted full neighborhood parcel inventory for future decision making regarding development and contracted for development proformas of two commercial properties and began redevelopment activites on one. In addtion to all the land redevelopments, hazelwood initiative also assisted local businesses and organzizations in their redevolpment plans.

hazelwood initiative other program service is their community and outreach program. Some of the accomplishments achieved through their community and outreach program during the year consists of; publishing ten issues of a five community twenty page, tabloid sized newspaper distributed free to 10,800 households and 200 businesses, conducting ten community meetings for public information and imput gathering regarding development activities, conduction eleven planning specific subcommittee meetings and facilitated three brownfield specific comunity information meetings. In addition, hazelwood initiative also supported several community activities.
