Humanitarian eye care is the reason I went into the field of ophthalmology, and I am so incredibly grateful to have found a place in this organization. The work the Hawaiian Eye Foundation does in low/middle income countries is both immediately impactful and sustainable, paving the way for continued improved eye care for generations to come. I have been fortunate enough to be a part of both surgical and teaching missions, and with each experience I have grown as a person and as a surgeon. The people within the organization are all wonderful and share a similar mindset – put others well-being above themselves. The hard-work, dedication, and sacrifice I have witnessed by the members of this team to provide world-class eye care to those in need never ceases to amaze me. I look forward to a continued working relationship with this group. I highly recommend this organization to anyone looking to make a difference in global ophthalmology.
The Hawaiian Eye Foundation expands throughout the world saving vision for those in need. The goal is to educate and restore vision to those who might not otherwise have the opportunities or resources available to them, in particular third world countries. This program has transformed the lives of thousands of people as recipients of a life changing ocular surgery to those who perform the surgery.
I was first introduced to the foundation about 8 years ago and was completely blown away by the selflessness of all who participate from the surgeons to the donors, all who make this program possible. Each year, awareness continues to grow for the organization and we would like to see the growth endure time by sharing the journey and story in helping others.
There is so much planning, training and education that must happen for the foundation members to perform small miracles and it none of it would be possible without the generous contributions from so many. Please, continue to support the Hawaiian Eye Foundation and help us spread the word on how to preserve our eyesight.

Hawaiian Eye Foundation gave me another level of perspective on ophthalmologic practices and sight-therapy services. It’s a once in a lifetime chance that opened my eyes on how eye patient should be treated. Given the opportunity to be involved with this organization as a scholar, I got a lot of experience more than I could imagine. Moreover, HEF organization helped to set up the first HEF meeting in my country that gave our ophthalmologist a lot of new knowledges
I have had the privilege of volunteering with Hawaiian Eye Foundation to the Dominican Republic. I cannot express the amazing community of professionals that are a part of this group. HEF is a wonderful organization that provides superb eyecare to those in need along with placing volunteers in roles where they can best contribute along with looking out for our well being ! I look forward to joining them on a future mission ! 5 stars to HEF!
Hawaiian Eye Foundation provides the gift of sight to people who otherwise would never be able to access card. Imagine waking up and being able to see your grandchild for the very first time. It's an incredible organization that puts all of its efforts into restoring and preserving vision. Being involved in this organization really makes you feel like you make a difference in people's lives.
I have been looking for organisations that I could work with here in Southeast Asia. Many that I came across had several financial and ethical issues. The HEF was one that stood out for me. I volunteered for their most recent mission in Yangon, Myanmar.
I was not only impressed with the doctors that they brought over, but the local medical personal that they inspired and motivated to be and do better. I liked how they not only helped the local people with eye issues, which was amazing and changed the patients lives in an instant, but trained the local doctors so they can keep the quality of care going. They were learning the latest and greatest techniques. So well done!
I plan to help out again when they are back in the region, as well as bug my friends and family to make a donation. I’ve seen where the money goes and what it can do. $100 literally will change someone’s life.

There is nothing better than the smile on the face of someone who was blind the day before cataract surgery was performed by the volunteer surgical team of the Hawaiian Eye Foundation. Not only can this person return to a contributing member of society, but the family that has been the guide can return to work or school. HEF has provided training and surgical services to the impoverished nations of the Pacific Rim since 1984 and recently added services to Caribbean countries and its home state of Hawaii and will continue to do so until blindness from cataracts has been eradicated.
I've been a volunteer with this nonprofit for a few medical mission trips, and they do amazing work for the underserved. The amount of commitment they have to helping those in need is incredible, and they show immense love and passion in all they do!
The gift of helping others is the most amazing feeling. Being a part of this team is so fulfilling. The work done to help give sight is incredible by this small charitable foundation. Such aloha!
