Causes: Education
Mission: Hawaii children's action network mobilizes actions for hawaii's young children through collaborations with local communities to build partnerships statewide so our children are safe, healthy and ready to succeed.
Programs: Coalition building & non-profit advocacy training:hawaii children's action network (hcan) builds and supports coalitions of non-profit organizations and governmental agencies that serve hawaii's children and their families. Hcan supports these coalitions to collectively advocate for systems and policy change to better serve children from birth to age 8. Hcan also provides advocacy tools through its community champions membership plan needed to influence positive policies and investments for children. Tools include bill drafting and tracking, testimony preparation and assistance drafting editorial letters and other media tools.
community engagement and advocacy hawaii children's action network (hcan) is building a grassroots movement engaging families and community leaders to be the voice for children. Hcan engages the community through public education and outreach about issues facing children and mobilizes them to take action. Through its parent leadership training institute hawaii program, a civic engagement and leadership program, hcan trains parents to be engaged and involved in their schools, community and legislative process to improve child outcomes.
general policy and data/research hawaii children's action network (hcan) monitors and analyzes the status of children and families in hawaii and nationally, and authors data and research projects to educate and empower the community and influence public policy and system change.
