Causes: Environment, Water, Water Resources, Wetlands Conservation & Management
Mission: Hatteras island ocean center is nonprofit corporation dedicated to facilitating the use of the cape hatteras national seashore recreation area and other hatteras island natural resources for recreation and enjoyment and for education on a wide variety of subjects including but not limited to: coastal studies; environmental protection; wildlife protection and rehabilitation; and the history and culture of hatteras island and the greater outer banks region.
Programs: Continue development and operation of ocean center ecology park. This includes two exhibit halls, a public marsh walk/paddlesports access/crabbing area, and offering ecology education programs to the general public.

continue development of turtle sense, a program designed to reduce cape hatteras national seashore beach closures due to sea turtle nesting activity. The second generation of turtle sense technology was deployed. Turtle sense is conducted in close cooperation with the national park service.
