Mission: Hastings family service (hfs) is a community based nonprofit agency providing a range of emergency and supportive services for over forty-five years to assist and guide neigbors from the hastings, minnesota, area who lack food, clothing, shelter, support, or transportation. Mission: the people of the hastings area reaching out as family in support and service to one another. Hfs provides help and hope in a spirit of caring and respect, knowing that unforeseen circumstances like job elimination, reduction in work hours, or medical emergencies can happen to any one at any time. The current econcomy has created numerous vulnerabilities, and hfs strives to assist those in need while providing fulfilling opportunities for volunteers and community members to support those efforts. During 2017, individuals served in one or more of the programs offered by hastings family service totaled 3,912.
Programs: Food shelf - emergency food for people needing temporary assistance. The food shelf served 1,042 families in 2017. Food shelf clients were also referred to other programs and resources, such as county assistance, food support, or other non-profits.
rivertown treasures - clean, seasonal, carefully inspected, gently used clothing and household items are provided at no cost to those who need assistance. Merchandise is also available for sale to the public, and all store revenue supports hastings family service's programs. In 2017, hastings family service filled 940 families' emergency requests for clothing.
emergency assistance - hastings family service provides grants and vouchers to individuals and families during emergencies. Grants and vouchers may be provided to assist with some expenses, such as housing, utilities, automobile repairs, gas, prescriptions, diapers, formula, and household items. In 2017, 374 grants were provided to families, 229 households received nonfood emergency vouchers, and 832 families received emergency bags containing needed items.
just friends - provides transportation and assistance with grocery shopping to enhance the quality of life of people in the hastings community. In 2017, volunteers provided 1,322 transports, logging 34,179 miles. In 2017, 326 students from 156 households received school supplies. Project share - families in need recieve food, gifts, and toys during the holidays. Businesses, churches, schools, and individuals make donations, fundraise, adopt families, host gift trees, and participate in toy and food drives to help their neighbors. In 2017, 358 households were served. Homelessness assistance - hastings family service provides help for the emergency needs of those experiencing homelessness.
