Mission: Harmony, Hope & Healing is an organization which provides creative, therapeutic and educational music programs offering emotional and spiritual support to homeless and under-served women, children and men in the Chicago area.
Results: The HHH Choir/Ensemble performs approximately 30 outreach concerts a year at churches, schools and community outreach organizations throughout the Chicago area. HHH offers over 500 hours of therapeutic and educational music programming a year. Using music as a catalyst, HHH programs: - Foster spiritual and emotional healing, nurturing hope for a better future. - Complement and reinforce the spirituality of the 12 step recovery programs. - Help participants to develop self-esteem and confidence. - Encourage appropriate and healthy ways to relieve stress and express emotions. - Support the development of parenting skills and parent/child bonding. - Reduce isolation and build community. - Enable the learning process, including learning the English language.
Target demographics: HHH serves approximately 650 individuals per year. Participants are struggling with issues stemming from poverty which include substance abuse, homelessness, violence, isolation and language barriers. Of those served: 56% are women, 34% are children and 10% are men.
Geographic areas served: HHH provides music programs in the following Chicago neighborhoods: Woodlawn, Englewood, Back of the Yards/New City, and the West Loop.
Programs: HHH works with social service agencies that recognize music as a valuable tool in a holistic approach to healing. Presently, HHH serves at six shelters and community outreach programs in some of Chicago’s most challenging neighborhoods. 1. St. Martin de Porres House of Hope, a long term shelter in the Woodlawn community for women in recovery and their children; 2. Maria Shelter of The Institute of Women Today, a transitional shelter in the Englewood community for homeless women and their children; 3. Vincennes Senior Center of The Institute of Women Today, a community outreach program in Englewood for seniors; 4. The Mantle of Port Ministries, a community outreach program in New City for families; 5. Cressey House of Cathedral Shelter, a supportive housing facility on the West side for adults in recovery and their children; 6. St. Leonard’s Adult High School, an educational program on the West side for formerly incarcerated women and men. Recognizing that each site has its own unique demographics, HHH provides the following musical activities in four ten week sessions annually: 1. Adult Music Sessions including Choir Rehearsals 2. Preschool & School Aged Children’s Music Classes 3. Parent/Child Music Classes 4. Musical English Lessons 5. Senior Choral Program & Group Piano Lessons ***Participants are also offered the opportunity to sing in the HHH Choir
