Programs: Education and outreach-the hanover conservancy reaches out to the community to engage it in land conservation and stewardship. This year the conservancy continued to recruit and train new volunteers and provide information on important conservation issues through its website, electronic newsletters and community activities. A regular calendar of free events continues to attract community members to organized hiking, snow shoeing, and other nature oriented programs. The conservancy's goal is to give voice to the importance of long-term land protection to the quality of life in hanover.
land conservation-the conservancy purchased a conservation easement on the shumway forest at a bargain price, assisted the town of hanover and trust for public land with another land protection project, pursued a third project, and continued its activites in land conservation planning.
land stewardship-the conservancy has five major land holdings, including the 112 acre mink brook nature preserve, the 113 acre greensboro ridge natural area, 22 acres at the balch hill natural area, the 38 acre lower slade brook natural area, and the 92-acre mayor-niles forest. All five properties are managed to protect the natural features and functions of the land and allow public recreational access. The conservancy also holds and monitors conservation easements on an additional 565. 9 acres.
trescott project - the conservancy assisted the municipal water supply authority, the trescott company, with a project to safely open a portion of the water supply lands to low-impact public recreation.
