Mission: Hands on DC was founded in the fall of 1994 by half-a-dozen friends who wanted to improve the quality of life for youth in the District. The group was particularly concerned by reports that described poor conditions in the District's public schools, and therefore dedicated its efforts to helping local students get a better education. During the past twelve years over 24,000 community members have improved the condition of more than 100 District public schools. During that time those same volunteers have raised $480,000 in scholarships, offering hard-working students the promise of help with paying for college.
Target demographics: support DC public schools and school children
Direct beneficiaries per year: 30 schools with beautification projects, hosted 1,500 volunteers and provided $30,000 in scholarships.

Programs: Work-a-thons to beautify schools and fund a scholarship program through our partners, Urban Alliance.
