Habitat for Humanity of Orange County has two ReStore Discount Home Improvement Centers that sell new and used home improvement items as a way to raise money to build homes. What better way to recycle your good re-useable kitchen cabinets - you keep them out of the landfill, get a tax deduction, help Habitat build homes and help another family remodel their home and enjoy your kitchen. I donate all of my books too!
Review from Guidestar
Of all the organizations I could volunteer for, this one has my heart. HfHOC has built over 130 homes and has helped that many families get back on their feet and give them a new start in life. I think the biggest joy for me is to see the children's faces when they see their new home and see the pride in the parents. These homes are not a "gift"; the families work for them and pay mortgages, etc., but it is truly a step up for them.
Wonderful to volunteer for...the people that work here are very nice and supremely grateful for the help. The staff is minimal, encourages volunteers, so the money donated goes where it needs to go for those who need the housing. A very worthwhile charity. I also admire the restore. Recycling at its finest, the materials that can be reused are, and they prove "one man's trash is another man's treasure".
