It is an affiliate of habitat for humanity international, a global non-profit housing organization working in nearly 1,400 communities in the united states and 70 other countries. Habitats vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. Since 1990, the organization has built 33 homes in berkeley county for families in need. The families help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. The houses are sold to the families at no profit and with no interest charged. The organization derives its support primarily from mortgage payment receipts, contributions and grants, conducting special events, and the operation of a non-profit home improvement store called restore.
