In 2009 my son broke his neck, c5, playing in a high school football game, he was 16. We were devastated and at a complete loss. While sitting in the Intensive Care Unit with him one evening I received a phone call from Eddie Canales of the Gridiron Heroes. He was reaching out to me to ask how we were doing, to see if there was anything he could do to help, and to guide me on this tough journey we had ahead of us, I never could gotten through it without Eddie and Chris’s help. Not only did Eddie help me with the necessary things I needed to do to help take care of my son, he was comforting and always there when I just needed to talk or needed a shoulder to cry on. When it got too hard on me to keep lifting Cody into my suv, Eddie and Chris were there donating a beautiful van to us which has made our lives as a family 100% better. We are able to come and go easier and travel. Eddie and Chris have become a mentors to me, they are always willing to help out when needed, and what they do to help others in the same situation is truly a blessing and it makes our lives much easier in this devastating and life changing situation.
My experience with gridiron heros was when I attended an event this summer and met the family and learned their story. I’ve seen how they’ve impacted so many and given back to others through their work and mission. It is truly a gift from God and great work when you can be the hands and feet for those that have experienced a spinal cord injury. Thank you to the family for all they have done and the continued outreach for public awareness.
Such an amazing family that has put together a phenomenal project. I’ve been there first hand to see the power that this foundation in helping out families when they need it the most and it’s amzing to say the least.
The Gridiron Heroes is an awesome organization established to educate individuals about head and spinal cord injury prevention and awareness. Both Eddie and Chris have dedicated their life to help, assist, and honor those individuals paralyzed on the Gridiron!
Awesome job guys!

When my son Casey Henderson fractured C4 and C5 on 9/22/17 Gridiron Heroes was there for me. If one of us had a question I could call them no matter the time of day or night. Before the injury on 8/25/17 Hurricane Harvey destroyed our home. So not only were we a homeless family of 6 but we also had to split up the family after the injury. The support they give is amazing from being available day or night to helping provide meals and supplies needed for the family.
As a mother with a son with an SCI I am very interested in Charities and Non profits assisting families and those suffering spinal cord injury ... Gridiron Heroes has maintained their integrity and focus speaking out against dangerous plays and training practices...associated with football. They are on the front foot of supporting families and creating awareness.
We are a small community who collectively works to educate people about the dangers of sports where spinal injuries can occur... Importantly supporting those with the injury and their families...Gridiron Heroes is a fantastic committed Non Profit and deserves all the support the community can give them.
I've witnessed how the Gridiron Heroes provides emotional and practical support to high school players who have suffered life changing spinal chord injuries and their families. They have transformed their own experience into an opportunity to help others going through the exact same experience.
I am a coach's wife and have witnessed how phenomenal Gridiron Heroes was after one of our football player's suffered a spinal cord injury during a game. We were so fortunate to have Chris' experience and Eddie's expertise to guide our community through this devestating injury. They both work from their heart to give everything they have to make a difference! Truly a one-of-a-kind team!
Seeing a young man overcome adversity, what an encouragement for those that have to deal with the same issues. To know they have a resource and an organization that can assist them in their needs, adjustment in life and give them encouragement is priceless. So proud of Eddie and Chris to see how many they have helped. God smiles when he see them going to assist the next young man.
I have a son in a wheelchair that was a football player but was actually injured in car accident. However, I understand what any family goes through when a devastating injury such as broken neck occurs. I actually met Eddie and Chris not long after Chris' injury when they were just starting up the organization. What Gridiron Heroes has done and does for the families of those suffering from these injuries while playing football, and even other sports, is nothing short of phenomenal. I am and have always been impressed by what Eddie and Chris do for these families, and particularly the individual affected. Without question, I believe that Gridiron Heroes deserves a 5 star rating.

I have known Eddie for more than 40 years. We played football and basketball together and am an experienced healthcare provider that deals initially with these injuries when they happen. So I am familiar with the devestation they cause both to the player and his or her family. Eddie and Chris provide both short and long term support for both. While under funded they never fail to respond and are truly an example of what we should strive to be.
A wonderful father and son team; they do more to help young athletes with spinal cord injuries than any other organization in the country! Why? Because they know the pain from both sides, the injured athlete and hurting parent(s). They have and will go anywhere they're need. Gridiron Heroes deserves all the support given them!
I've seen first hand how Chris has to rest an entire day after a cross country journey to help an injured young man, and Eddie being there for Chris 24/7. There is no greater mission one can have in life than to help those that are less fortunate then we are but, to have suffered the kind of injury Chris suffered and in spite of his own situation, he and his family have brought much needed resources families and children need after suffering a catastrophic spinal cord injury. The Canales family is the very definition of "selflessness!" May the Good Lord continue to bless the work of their hands and all the members that make up the Gridiron Heroes.
So many football players have spinal cord injuries every year, and receive no financial support. Gridiron Heroes provides mobility, motivation and helps injured athletes have a better quality of life. They make huge impact!
Gridiron Heroes and Eddie & Chris are supporting young men and their families that are otherwise forgotten and unsupported a few weeks after injury. Typically, many 'friends' start to drift away from the injured person and family after a few months. But, that's when Eddie, Chris and Gridiron Heroes is just getting started! GH is there for them for the long haul.

Eddie and Chris give 110% to help young men who have suffered life changing injuries due to high school football. They are beyond brave and started a much needed service with little support from the football community . But they NEVER gave up. They are true servants and have hearts of gold. Can't sY enough good things about this organization
I have known Eddie for more than forty years. The work he has done and the sacrifices made to help families and the injured child is beyond phenomenal. Gridiron Heroes is a beacon for what giving is truly all about.
