Programs: Opening night: this event took place on friday, june 2nd and had an audience of 1,200 people. The night included the premiere of the powerful and moving documentary film, bending the arc, which chronicles the team of doctors and activists whose work, 30 years ago, to save lives in a rural haitian village grew into a global battle in the halls of power for healthy equity for all. It was followed by a q&a on the stae of global health care. After the film presentation, there was a star-studded party that kicked off the festival weekend. The party took place on at the boys & girls club of america. During the party, flo rida performed a concert, and sophia bush announced the film awards. $25,000 was awarded to the winning filmmakers. Changemaker gala: the changemaker gala is a black tie awards dinner that honors artists who've used their voice for positive social change. This year, the dinner took place on june 1st at l'escale, honoring actress & humanitarian renee zellweger for her work with als, honoring model and humanitarian christy turlington burns for her work founding every mother counts, and honoring life long teacher and community member, andrew niblock who was recently diagnosed with als. The event raised $226,000 for charity. Centerpiece film series: charged: the eduardo garcia story. Giff was proud to feature multiple film screenings and q&as for charged benefiting 430 people. Giff hosted a 4-day film festival june 1 to 4, 2017 that featured 70 film premieres and screenings, industry networking events, educational panels and free community events. 10,000 people came through the festival.
